Preventative Medicine

Regular checkups allow us to establish a baseline in your horse’s health and make us aware of any changes that may indicate future problems. Dr. Fitzpatrick will go over your vaccination, deworming, feeding and exercise programs to ensure that your horse is as healthy as possible. We monitor your horse’s weight ensuring that your horse is staying a healthy size for its breed and height. It is much easier to start a diet when a horse is 50 pounds overweight instead of 150! Our goal is to catch the small problems before they become major ones.

There are a variety of diseases which can affect your horse. Making the proper vaccinations vital in protecting them from many types of illnesses, whether passed from other horses or from mosquitoes and flies or rabid bats/skunks/raccoons/possum. It’s important to consult with us about the unique risks of living in our region with all of our waterways and wild animals. We will be happy to discuss the benefits of protecting your horse with vaccinations, as well as, provide you with information on the proper vaccinations for your horse, whether it is your backyard pony or a show horse.
